Building a Barrier-First Routine, In That Order

The most common routine mistake we see isn't product choice — it's sequence. Layering a strong active onto a compromised barrier is like painting over a cracked wall: the result never looks as good as the ingredients deserve.
Our rule is simple: hydrate before you treat, and treat before you seal. Start with a barrier-supporting cleanser, follow with hydrating actives (hyaluronic acid, glycerin), then move to treatment actives (retinal, vitamin C, niacinamide), and finish by sealing everything in with a ceramide-rich moisturizer.
Give each layer sixty to ninety seconds to absorb before the next. Rushing the sequence is the single biggest reason actives feel like they 'don't work' — they're evaporating before they've had a chance to penetrate.
If you're introducing a new active, add it to an already-hydrated, already-barrier-supported routine — never to bare skin. The difference in tolerability is significant.
